In Frankly Friday

It’s your final day.

You are closing the books.

The news has long spread. Your colleagues and clients have shared their goodbyes.

You have written your letters of appreciation.

You’ve packed your final moving box.

And you’re waiting for the clock to strike five, on this most surreal Friday afternoon.

At that moment, you will hand over the keys to the new owner of your company and leave the rest to them.

I wonder:

What are the first things the new owner will change starting Monday morning?

With fresh eyes, enthusiasm, and a growth mindset, what will this new steward of the company be focused on?

What will they treasure the most about this sophisticated machine they’ve purchased from you?

What would they quickly let go of?

How will they improve your customer experience?

How will they improve your employee experience?

Without your “old” way of doing things, how will they survive… and how will they thrive 1, 5, and 10 years from now?

And finally,

What if this “new owner,” was you?

You may not know it, but you have an opportunity in the next 30 days.

Buy your business from your old self.

Enter the front door Monday morning and ask,

“If I were to look at this place as if I had just paid millions of dollars for it, what would I do differently?”

“What would I be excited about?”

And

“What must I get to work on?”

Buy your business from your business, my friend.

The perspective is subtle, but it is life-giving and world-changing.

I can’t wait for you to see all of the wonderful things in front of you with these new eyes.

Cheers,

BW
