It’s fascinating how many hours people will spend waiting for a few seconds of thrill.
We are those people.
The longest line at Magic Kingdom finally landed us on the ride we’d been waiting for all day.
Clank clank clank. Whoooo. Wheee. And then an abrupt stop right back at where we started just 90 seconds before.
“Can we go again!?” Shouted my courageous nine-year-old girl.
Brushing our kids out of the queue to escape the wrath of the awaiting masses, I said “C’mon Jovi, people are waiting.”
That’s when we encountered the real magic.
A young man working the ride walked over, kneeled to her level, smiled, and said “Why yes, princess, you can ride again.”
He then motioned our entire family through a secret passageway, straight to the front of the line, where we stepped on the very next coaster leaving the station for a second round.
Clank clank. Whooo. Wheeee.
But this time was even more exhilarating than the first because a spell of generosity had been cast over our entire family. All of us kids, young and old, were beaming.
What in the Snow White and Seven Dwarfs had just happened?
After some insider research, we learned of the coolest policy I think I’ve ever seen from any company on the planet.
Each day, a select number of Disney Cast members are granted “pixie dust,” aka unexpected generosity, that they can sprinkle on a guest of their choosing.
We got pixie dusted. And it was enchanting.
Not just because we got a second ride, but because of the genius strategy behind it:
- It cost them nothing
- It produced joy out of thin air
- It made me believe for sure that the world is a good place.
Mr. Mouse inspired me to ask, how can I pixie dust more people in my life? In my business? In my house? In traffic? In my church?
How could you do the same?
It will cost you nothing.
It will produce joy out of thin air.
We will all know for sure the world is a good, good place.
Cheers,
BW
