In Frankly Friday

Momentum = mass X velocity.

By October 1st of last year, my body had a lot of mass, but not much velocity.  It had been 4,151 days since this guy had seen a gym.

Mass, of course, is the size of something. And velocity is defined as “speed in a given direction.”

A few days before my reluctant return to working out, I had picked up an article in Harvard Business Review profiling the daily rituals of the world’s most successful CEOs. Halfway through, it was painfully clear that each of them had something I did not: physical activity.

Then it occurred to me; I did have physical activity. It just wasn’t the kind of activity I wanted.

I had physical health; but it wasn’t the kind of physical health I wanted.

I had momentum, but it was just in the wrong direction.

The Momentum Mindset:

Momentum isn’t something that we do or don’t have; everyone has momentum. It is always present. The only question is in which direction is the momentum headed.

We have momentum towards or away from fitness.

We have momentum toward a good or bad marriage.

We have momentum towards or away from financial health.

We have momentum towards or away from addictions.

We have momentum towards or away from complacency.

We have momentum towards or away from a kind heart.

We have momentum towards or away from ignorance.

We have momentum towards or away from conquering our fears.

We have momentum towards or away from being better listeners, writers, readers, athletes, leaders, parents, friends, and professionals.

Every step you take adds or subtracts from momentum that already exists. Every voice you let yourself believe validates or breaks down that momentum.

And you know what the cool thing about that is?

You get to choose.

You don’t need a 30th birthday, a 50th birthday, a note from a doctor, or a major life event to give you permission.

You get to choose, any day, every day, TO-day, what momentum you effect.

So what momentum will you add to today?

What momentum will you subtract from?

For every action there is a reaction.

Go make it the one you want!
