In Frankly Friday

We’re climbing out of the deep end, numb to what just happened to us. The “new” normal is starting to feel a whole lot like the old normal.

In the months ahead it seems that our days in quarantine will dissipate into a weird little blip in time. As the clouds move out, the narrative of this ordeal will be reduced to memes and memories,

“Man those were some crazy times.”

Crazy times indeed. But I’d also argue that these were crucial times for clarity.

A friend this week challenged our team with something that I immediately wrote down:

“Let’s not focus on getting through this. Let’s focus on growing through this.”

It’s true, isn’t it?

We were all just handed a gift. We quickly conquered things that would have taken us years to get around to, if ever:

  • Time with family
  • Cooking at home
  • Saving money
  • Exercise habits
  • Solitude
  • Letting go control

Finding gratitude; realizing all that we missed about the world we were shut out of

And we all lived the last 8 weeks in a new kind of clarity.

Before we lose that; before normal happens to us again, let’s seize this moment. Let’s recap and realize what we’ve truly found to be important.

I propose making two lists:

1. Everything you learned in the last 8 weeks about yourself and others

2. Everything you missed dearly

What do you see now that you didn’t see before?

What do you want to keep doing?

What do you want to never go back to again?

In the coming weeks, months, and years, take this list out and reflect on it. Meditate on it if that’s your thing. Spend some time recalling what was so clear to you in moments of desperation.

Use that clarity to guide your thoughts, your feelings, and your actions.

On normal days we spend an immense amount of energy searching for what is important.

But now we know.

Now we know.

Cheers,

BW
